BACKGROUND
Under the supervision of the Senior Advisor, Health Programme Group, New York, the consultant will support the Global Health Team in enhancing UNICEF’s digital presence and knowledge management systems through an integrated social media and communications approach. The consultant will contribute to advancing global health priorities by planning, creating, and curating strategic content; monitoring sector developments; producing engagement and performance reports; and strengthening internal knowledge management platforms.
The consultant’s responsibilities will include supporting the development and execution of social media strategies across UNICEF Health’s channels, coordinating regular content development and posting, providing event and advocacy communications support, and ensuring timely documentation and dissemination of key messages, visuals, and materials. The consultant will also support the organization, structuring, and improvement of SharePoint knowledge management sites for adolescent health and NCDIs, as well as contribute to newsletters and other programme communications products.
Scope of Work:
Content Strategy, Planning, and Creation
- Develop and maintain social media content plans and editorial calendars; create and curate multimedia content and visual assets aligned with programme priorities.
- Produce branded visuals, graphics, and compiled content packages (including WhatsApp Channel content for adolescent health and NCDIs).
Monitoring, Research, and Reporting
- Monitor UN and global health developments; prepare summaries and trend analyses related to child, adolescent, and maternal health.
- Conduct social media performance monitoring and develop quarterly engagement analysis reports.
Social Media Management and Engagement
- Draft and schedule content for Twitter, LinkedIn, and messaging channels; support account engagement through monitoring, responses, and partner content amplification.
- Serve as a focal point for social media trends, inquiries, and monitoring and evaluation activities.
Knowledge Management and SharePoint Support
- Provide structure and content recommendations for Knowledge Management sites; develop concept notes and support updates and quarterly reporting.
- Organize and manage multimedia and knowledge resources to support programme-wide accessibility and use.
Event Coverage and On-site Communications Support
- Capture and package event documentation—including quotes, photos, and videos—from press conferences and relevant sessions.
- Provide on-site support for high-level advocacy events (e.g., UNGA, WHS), including briefing materials, newsletters, and real-time social media updates.
Newsletter and Publications Support
- Contribute to internal and external newsletter production for Global Health Programmes through content gathering, drafting, and coordination.
Terms of Reference / Key Deliverables:

Qualifications
Education: Advanced degree in Public Health, Public Policy, Communications or in related fields.
Work experience: A minimum of two (2) years of work experience in, communication project management or public health communications.
Knowledge/Expertise/Skills required *:
- Be computer literate in standard software applications including MS Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point).
- One (1) year experience in production of social media content for international organizations and/or ONG.
- Expertise in analyzing complex data sets, analysis and trend forecasting.
- Language Proficiency: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.

- the costs per each deliverable and the total lump-sum for the whole assignment (in US$) to undertake the terms of reference.

- Any other estimated costs: visa, health insurance, and living costs as applicable.

- Any emergent / unforeseen duty travel and related expenses will be covered by UNICEF.
- At the time the contract is awarded, the selected candidate must have in place current health insurance coverage.
- Payment of professional fees will be based on submission of agreed satisfactory deliverables. UNICEF reserves the right to withhold payment in case the deliverables submitted are not up to the required standard or in case of delays in submitting the deliverables on the part of the consultant.
U.S. Visa information:
With the exception of the US Citizens, G4 Visa and Green Card holders, should the selected candidate and his/her household members reside in the United States under a different visa, the consultant and his/her household members are required to change their visa status to G4, and the consultant’s household members (spouse) will require an Employment Authorization Card (EAD) to be able to work, even if he/she was authorized to work under the visa held prior to switching to G4.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants. Consultants are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.
The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
