The Religion & Philosophy (RELP) Division is tasked specifically with providing instruction in the Religion component of General Education Program, as well as granting undergraduate and graduate degrees. This position has two primary functions. The first is outward facing, to serve as the first point of contact for students, parents and prospective students seeking information. Secondly, this position facilitates the on-going, and day-to-day administrative activities within the division office; working closely with the Divisional Dean, Office Manager, and division faculty members. The division operates in conjunction with the Office of Church Relations, the Center for Faith and Learning, and the Hub for Spiritual Life to encourage Christian spiritual formation within the Pepperdine community, and to strengthen the University mission statement.

Duties

  • Outward-Facing Duties: Assist in managing the front divisional office, greet visitors, faculty, staff and students. Regularly engage with current students by managing class waitlists, responding to student requests, and assisting students in the completion of exception and transfer course requests. Deliver excellent customer service.
  • Inward-Facing Administrative Duties: Manage RELP Division areas, including faculty offices and classrooms; submitting maintenance and work orders as necessary to promote a healthy educational environment. Partner with departments on campus to support students and faculty within the division. Perform regular administrative tasks such as maintaining files, making photocopies and scans, coordinating course book orders, ordering supplies, credit card reallocation and substantiation, assisting faculty with classroom and office items (contacting tech support, proctoring exams, filing requests, materials requests, coordinating set-up and moving requests, maintenance requests). Answer/return general office phone calls, send/respond to written and electronic communications, schedule, organize, and set up meetings, and assist the divisional dean and office manager with special projects related to furthering the mission of the RELP division.
  • Supervisor Duties: Hire, train, and mentor student workers to assist in divisional tasks.
  • Communication and Promotional Duties: Ensure effective communication and coordination of the division and its activities/programs through social media, website, and email. To further this objective, this position will require some knowledge of web design and graphic design, or prior social media management experience.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent (with at least 3 years clerical experience); or Bachelor's Degree.
  • Enthusiastic and positive demeanor; ability to establish work priorities; strong communication skills both verbal and written; and knowledge of office procedures.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.) & Google Docs.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of or prior experience with Pepperdine University.
  • Web Design and Social Media skills.
  • Experience with 25Live, PeopleSoft, Nolji, Adobe Acrobat, familiarity with using an HTML editor.

This is a Regular, Nonexempt, 40 hour per week position.

Expected Pay Range: $22.06 - $24.51 per hour 

The above pay range reflects what Pepperdine University reasonably expects to pay for this position at time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on relevant factors such as work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level.
