Under the supervision of the Captain of Public Safety, the Lieutenant is responsible for overseeing patrol operations within the Department of Public Safety, which includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities: leadership and daily supervision to all field supervisors, patrol officers, and booth officers, providing field operational support, serving as acting watch commander and admin on duty while on campus, reviewing reports for accuracy and to provide training/feedback to personnel to further their development, referring reports needing further follow-up to investigations, and executing training plans for patrol personnel.

Duties

  • Protocol Development and Implementation: Assist in updating and developing Departmental policies and procedures related to patrol operations.
  • Crime Prevention & Community Collaboration: Work closely with all University schools and departments to prepare and implement Departmental leadership's vision on crime prevention. Collaborate with, and support, all members of Public Safety and members of the Pepperdine community to foster and maintain a positive, honorable, and professional work environment.
  • Emergency Response: While on campus, be available to serve as Administrator on Duty Watch Commander. Liaise with outside agencies as appropriate. Accept responsibility as a critical support personnel, and report for duty, if safe to do so, in the event of a critical incident impacting the operations of Public Safety. Be prepared to appropriately liaise with law enforcement and other first responders.
  • Supervision: Supervise the Field Supervisors, Patrol Officer, and Booth Officers, ensuring performance standards are being met for both internal and external third-party personnel as appropriate. Review reports for accuracy, and provide training/feedback to officers to further their development, while referring reports needing further follow-up to investigations. Provide coaching as needed.
  • Personnel: Assist in the development and execution of the Department's training strategy. Schedule and lead training sessions. Monitor training records to ensure Departmental compliance. Participate in recruitment and onboarding of patrol and booth personnel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Uphold University mission through work performed.

Skills and Qualifications

Required:

  • Supervisory experience.
  • Security experience.
  • Experience using Google Suite (i.e., Google Drive).

Preferred:

  • Previous Law Enforcement experience.
  • Experience with Report writing ARMs, CCTV.

This is a Regular, Exempt, 40 hour per week position.

Expected Pay Range: $70,304 - $74,900 per year 

The above pay range reflects what Pepperdine University reasonably expects to pay for this position at time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on relevant factors such as work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level.
