Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Outreach and Social Media Specialist at the Digital Futures Institute will create outreach and social media materials (written, visual, multimedia) and coordinate outreach and social media campaigns and strategies. In collaboration with members of the Digital Futures Institute (DFI), the Specialist will support public scholarship, instruction, media creation, technology use and research at Teachers College. They will also create, support, and design elements of communications materials, such as newsletters, websites, cover art, and other materials sharing the work of DFI and affiliated projects. They may also be asked to work on other aspects of DFI projects in a flexible capacity; experience in graphic design is a plus. This is an interim position that works a maximum of 19 hours/week and is appointed on a semester basis.
The Outreach and Social Media Specialist must:

- Manage the production and posting schedule of social media and outreach campaigns on multiple platforms and forms of media.
- Create graphics for use on the web, in outreach, and other materials.
- Be able to attend bi-weekly Comms meetings as needed, in order to optimally understand comms strategies and events objectives, and discuss and implement creative approaches to telling DFI’s story.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Excellent communication skills
- Demonstrated experience with creating social media, marketing or outreach campaigns and material creation- this must include some experience with LinkedIn, Instagram, and other social media scheduling platforms of software (like Buffer)
- Willingness to learn new digital tools, as needed
- Experience designing visuals
- Can work within parameters such as a tight time-frame and with specifications requested by others
- Must be able to synthesize the work of multiple teams and projects in a coherent communication approach and strategy
- Pro-active, independent approach to work while working on a highly collaborative and communicative team
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in related field
- Graphic design training and/or equivalent professional experience
- Experience in education, educational media, or related field
- Extensive experience writing social media copy, for various platforms and newsletters
- Link either to work samples or portfolio
Salary Range: $25.00/hour
