Job Summary/Basic Function:

The Content & Marketing Specialist is a vital part of the marketing team that will write and contribute to email marketing, direct marketing, website updating, blog posting, and sales collateral creation at Teachers College Press/Columbia University, the leading university press in the Education field. This position will collaborate with colleagues to generate marketing materials that clearly position our publishing program in the marketplace and create community. This is a hybrid position that is based in the NYC office.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Write content for sales collateral, email campaigns, author events, blogs, social media, press releases, surveys, and industry conference collateral. 
  • Execute weekly and monthly marketing tasks, include author communication, creating A+ content on Amazon, releasing books for pre-order, keywords, BISAC codes, and the like. 
  • Participate in Launch Meetings, Sales Performance Meetings, Conference Planning Meetings. 
  • Collaborate with Editorial and Marketing colleagues to implement promotional activities to maximize sales. 
  • Plan and manage catalog creation, including copy, cost estimates, vendor negotiation, backlist title promotion, printing schedule and distribution. 
  • Travel to industry conferences. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of marketing experience in academic and/or professional book publishing in the higher education space.
  • Skilled in promotional copywriting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, takes initiative and follows through.
  • Team player, creative, and adept at learning new systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background in the Education field or academic publishing
  • Experience with Biblio Digital Asset Management

Salary Range:

$55,000 - $60,000

Employees are expected to live within a 150-mile radius of the College.
