Posting Summary:
The department of ________ is seeking a Teaching Assistant (TA). The TA will assist [INSERT FACULTY MEMBER NAME or TITLE] in the delivery and management of [INSERT COURSE NAME]

Job Summary/Basic Function:
The TA will work under the supervision of the faculty to support the overall quality and rate of student participation, improve retention, and improve communication by clarifying and/or reinforcing course content, assignments and material through individualized peer tutoring and additional responsibilities defined by the assigned course instructor. This position requires a commitment of a minimum of __ hours/week.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:

Primary responsibilities include lecturing, discussion leading, assignment and paper grading, assignment design, syllabus design, administrative responsibilities and a number of other minor and major related responsibilities; including but not limited to:

Teach and/or lecture limited class sessions
Facilitate tutoring and lab sessions
Hold office hours and/or be available for student questions in some format
Act as the first point-of-contact in assisting students with questions, clarify course content, review assignments, and provide guidance on study strategies or resources
Assist in the preparation and organization of course materials, including syllabi, lecture slides, handouts, and online resources
Assist in managing online discussion forums as required
Assist in proctoring exams and implementing exam procedures
Provide the instructor with feedback on course design, learning objectives, and teaching strategies based on student feedback and instructional best practices
Manage course communications in Canvas
Take attendance and monitor class participation
Assist with grading assignments, exams, and other assessments
Provide technical and other supportive assistance to teaching staff

This position is eligible for 3 tuition points per semester.

Work Limitations
During the academic year students may not hold appointments or any combination of appointments totaling more than 27 hours per week (exception: Generally, international students may not exceed 20 hours in all positions combined).

Minimum Qualifications:
Please select the applicable minimum qualifications

Must be a TC student currently enrolled in a degree program and taking at least 5 credits
Must be able to abide by Teachers College academic and personnel policies and guidelines, including FERPA, Student Confidentiality Agreement and the Student Privacy Requirements
A minimum commitment of __ number of semesters
Knowledge and understanding of the course content or subject area.
Ability to adapt to different teaching styles, course requirements, and student needs
Ability to convey complex concepts clearly and provide constructive feedback
Willingness to take on new tasks or responsibilities
Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, fellow TAs, and other stakeholders to support the smooth delivery of the course
Must be available to students who need individual academic assistance

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience, skills, education/field/degree area

Teaching experience at undergraduate level
Course administration experience
Research experience in related subject
