The Center for Global Engagement invites application for the position of Assistant/Associate Director-International Student and Scholar Services. This position is responsible for facilitating all aspects of international student and scholar services. Major areas of responsibility include updating records in SEVIS per United States law, advising and assisting international students, faculty and staff on all aspects of F-1 visas, residential college life, and the U.S. study experience; and supporting student activities and programs.
Responsibilities:
Serves as the school’s Designated School Official (DSO) for International Students:
- Issue Forms and I-20 and maintains the immigration records of F-1 visa holders
- Establishes, maintains, and updates confidential papers and electronic files in accordance with college policies, U.S. Federal & State Regulations, SEVIS, and other mandated guidelines
- Monitors changes to immigration rules and procedures
- Provides updated information to constituents via email, website or other media as needed
Plans, develops, coordinates, implements and conducts workshops including:
- International Student Pre-Orientation
- CPT workshops
- OPT workshops
- Taxes (working with SPRINTAX tax preparation software)
Serves as an advisor and mentor to international students and scholars. Assists with orientation and other International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) programming events, including some weekend and evening hours.
Serves as a liaison to a variety of offices on and off campus, including, but not limited to:
- Social Security Office
- Bureau of Motor Vehicles
- Internal Revenue Service
- Division of Student Affairs
- Admissions
- Financial Aid
- Academic Advising
- Career Development Office
- Assists with creation of informational materials.
- Oversees a team of peer leaders during International Student Pre-Orientation.
- On-call responsibilities shared with other team members.
Required Qualifications:
- Must be a US permanent resident or US citizen per SEVP.
- Master’s Degree in a relevant field and 3-5 years experience in international student services (Assistant Level).
- Master’s Degree in a relevant field and 5-7 years experience in international student services (Associate Level).
- Demonstrated knowledge of F-1 immigration regulations.
- Demonstrated experience working with people of diverse backgrounds and commitment to promoting cultural understanding among students and larger community.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work well in a team, and to work well with a variety of constituencies (students, faculty, parents, staff).
- Ability to travel nationally and internationally as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of H-1b and other visa categories.
- Significant international experience living, studying or working abroad.
- Working knowledge of a language other than English.
