The Department of Political Science at Kenyon College invites applications for a two-year visiting assistant professor position in American politics, effective July 1, 2026.  

Qualified applicants will have a strong teaching and research background in American politics and American governmental institutions, knowledge of American history and American political thought, and a strong commitment to undergraduate education in a liberal arts context. Primary teaching responsibilities will include teaching our introductory course in U.S. government and politics, Liberal Democracy in America, as well as advanced courses and seminars in American politics.  We will give strong preference to candidates with expertise in constitutional law, American judicial politics, American political development, and American political thought. Preference will also be given to candidates who have the ability to teach our first-year seminar, Quest for Justice, a year-long introduction to political thought and argument.  We seek candidates with a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching and research. The teaching load is five courses per year.  Candidates must have a Ph.D. by the beginning of the appointment.

Compensation and Benefits

Salaries at Kenyon are competitive and are commensurate with experience. There are a number of faculty development opportunities (e.g. travel, research funds, etc.) for which appointees are eligible.
