Kenyon College is conducting a search for a qualified candidate to fill the position of Assistant/Associate Director of Graduate School Advising. This position provides advising to current students and alumni on graduate school exploration, applications, and decision-making. This role also leads the graduate school support strategy and serves as a liaison among graduate programs, students, and Kenyon faculty.
Essential Functions
- Serve as the primary advisor for all graduate school and professional school pathways (except pre-health) for current students and alumni.
- Provide individualized advising to students and alumni on graduate school exploration and the application process, including personal statements, CVs/résumés, program fit, timelines, interviews, and standardized test prep strategies.
- Utilize technology tools such as Handshake to manage student appointments, events, and maintain case notes.
- Lead graduate school advising strategy by staying current on trends, policy changes, and best practices in graduate school admissions.
- Develop and deliver graduate school programming, including information sessions, workshops, and alumni panels.
- Manage implementation of graduate school partnership and articulation agreements, including 3–2 programs; coordinate campus visits and related logistics.
- Identify and support pre-professional faculty advisors who mentor students on specific professional pathways such as architecture, business/management, engineering, law, library and information science, ministry and teaching.
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships with faculty, athletics, student organizations, and campus offices to support graduate school preparation.
- Develop and sustain external relationships with graduate schools to enhance visibility, facilitate information sharing, and advocate for institutional applicants.
- Track outcomes and maintain accurate advising records, including graduate school applications, enrollments, and acceptances, and contribute to First Destination reporting.
- Serve on the Fulbright selection committee in partnership with the Director of Fellowships.
- Serve as a liaison to academic departments and athletic programs for the Career Development Office.
Requirements:
- Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a related field required. Proven track record in student advising, career coaching, or related higher education experience preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships across constituencies.
- Strong public speaking, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills required.
Working Conditions:
- This position may require limited travel and the associated physical demands, as well as occasional work during evenings and weekends.
