Kenyon College invites applications for the position of Head Men's and Women's Squash Coach. This is a full-time, 10-month reporting position with benefits. The Head Men’s and Women’s Squash Coach will be responsible for all phases of starting a successful college Squash program: coaching, providing leadership, scouting, recruiting, instructing, strength training and conditioning, arranging travel, managing budgets, tracking equipment and developing financial program support. Teaching one class per semester is included in the responsibilities.

Essential Job Functions
Maintain a Competitive Program
- Recruit academically and athletically strong applicants for admission in the selective, highly competitive application pool at Kenyon College.
- Coach the student athlete to a high level of achievement.
- Be successful in designated conference play.
- Preserve and uplift the academic priority at Kenyon College with the student-athlete.
Budget Maintenance
- Order all supplies and equipment for the Men and Women’s Squash program.
- Keep a record of all purchases and expenses in order to stay within the budget.
- Inventory and safety check all equipment.
Travel and Scheduling
- Participate in the scheduling process and develop a strategy for non-conference early season attendance at tournaments and games.
- Travel for athletic contests, recruiting, coaches meetings and convention/caucus attendance is required.
- Ability to obtain a College drivers certification is desirable.
- Schedule officials in conjunction with the sports event manager.
- Schedule practice times in conjunction with the Facilities Director.
- Work in conjunction with Athletic Trainers to maintain student athlete welfare.
Education
- Provide opportunities for Assistant Coaches, Captains and players to become scholars of the game of squash.
- Work with Sports Information to develop promotional and recruiting material.
- Assist with statistics verification for official records and sports information.
Communication
- Maintain a healthy communication with other departments on campus, particularly admissions.
- Participate in campus wide events.
Teaching
- Teach one (1) Physical Education Course per semester.
Marginal Functions
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics – currently Indoor Sports game management.
Other Expectations
- Serve as a member of the Athletics, Fitness and Recreation team, responsible for providing leadership, goals, and program implementation at a fully residential campus housing 1800 undergraduate students.
- Develop and maintain mutually supportive and collaborative working relationships with student affairs colleagues, faculty, and other campus partners to accomplish shared objectives and tasks.
- Lead and assist with designated departmental, divisional, and/or College committees, initiatives and processes.
- Develop meaningful connections with students, staff and faculty by being available and visible on campus.
- Assist with special projects and duties, as needed.
- Demonstrate a commitment to and compliance with the College’s and Department of Athletics, Fitness and Recreation policies and procedures as well as the North Coast Athletic Conference and NCAA constitutions, bylaws, legislation and regulations.
- Demonstrate a commitment to the Department of Athletics’ student-athlete handbook, and the Student Affairs and Kenyon College’s mission statements.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to coach to a high level of success and to carry out assignments in a prompt and timely fashion.
- Skill in interpersonal communications sufficient to interact effectively with students, colleagues, faculty and staff.
- Knowledge of the field of study sufficiently broad to teach concepts and strategy of the game of squash.
- Heavy lifting/moving equipment is required.
- Ability to write effectively in internal College communications, in interaction with outside constituencies, and in preparing professional material.
- Ability to travel to professional meetings and conferences as necessary.
- Ability to interact verbally with students in a classroom or field of sport environment or with individual students in private meetings.
Hours
The working schedule is not traditional nor regular: early morning, day, late evenings, weekends are required, as may be work during college breaks and summers. This is a full time, 10 month reporting, position but paid over 12 months so there are no disruptions to benefits coverage.
Qualification Standards
- Education: bachelor's degree, master's degree preferred.
- At least 1 year prior college coaching.
