WHS Manager

Location: Central Queensland (Bowen Basin)

Roster: 5:2 FIFO or DIDO

Segment: Energy & Resources

 

We’re seeking an operationally experienced Work, Health and Safety Manager to partner closely with the Key Account Director and account management team to deliver practical, effective safety outcomes while enhancing frontline leadership capability across a portfolio of Resources Villages for a key client in the Central Highlands region of Queensland.

 

This site-based role offers a meaningful opportunity to drive a strong safety culture across multiple sites across catering, cleaning, and village services.

You will also oversee the implementation of the ISS HSE Management System, ensuring robust monitoring, auditing, and reporting processes are in place to effectively manage WHS risks and continuously improve performance.

This Full Time opportunity is offered on a 5 day on, 2 day off roster with FIFO from Brisbane or DIDO for a local candidate in the Bowen Basin region Blackwater, Emerald, Dysart or Moranbah – 1 to 2 hour drive

Rockhampton, Mackay or Gladstone) – 3 to 4.5 hour drive.


Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Key Account Director to implement, monitor and review the contract Health & Safety Plan
  • Provide operational and tactical HSE advice to the contract management team
  • Coach and mentor leaders to build capability in WHS practices and foster a positive safety culture
  • Support standardisation of HSEQ processes in collaboration with the broader HSEQ team
  • Participate in internal audit programs to ensure compliance, governance, and continuous improvement
  • Maintain certifications including ISO 9001, 14001, 45001, NZ ACC, and Federal Safety Commissioner WHS accreditation
  • Champion and drive utilization of the HSEQ system (Velocity), including:
    • Hazard and incident reporting
    • Investigations and corrective actions
    • Workplace inspections and audits
  • Analyse and report on safety data to support informed decision-making
  • Identify and deliver initiatives to improve HSE culture and performance
  • Represent the organisation as a trusted and professional partner to the client

About You

You are a confident communicator with a collaborative mindset and a passion for safety leadership. You thrive in a fast-paced environment, influence positive change, and bring a strategic approach to improving WHS outcomes.

You will bring:

  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in an operational WHS role (facilities management, resources, infrastructure, or similar)
  • Relevant health & safety qualification (minimum Cert IV)
  • Proven ability to influence leaders and stakeholders at all levels
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Experience leading or supporting organisational change initiatives
  • A practical, solutions-focused mindset with strong problem-solving capability
  • Ability to work effectively within a matrix organisation
  • Strong knowledge of industry trends and best practices in HSE

Desirable:

  • OHS Management Systems Auditor qualification
  • Root Cause Analysis training (iCAM, Tap Root, or similar)

Requirements

  • Current C Class Driver’s Licence
  • Willingness to travel frequently between Central Highlands sites (approx. 400–500 km/week)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain:
    • Standard 11 Coal Induction
    • QLD Coal Board Medical
    • National Police Check
