JOB SUMMARY

The Peer Mentor serves as a dedicated student leader and resource for peers within Student Support Services. The primary focus of this role is to assist fellow students in navigating their academic, social, and personal transitions at the university. Peer Mentors foster a welcoming community, provide guidance on campus resources, and facilitate engagement through one-on-one check-ins and group activities.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Peer Guidance: Conduct regular one-on-one or group mentoring sessions with assigned mentees to discuss academic progress, goal setting, and campus life adjustments.

Resource Referral: Connect students with vital campus resources, including academic advisement, the Academic Resource Center, career services, and counseling.

Event Facilitation: Assist in planning, promoting, and executing workshops, social events, and community-building activities hosted by Student Support Services.

Administrative Support: Maintain accurate documentation of student interactions, track attendance for events, and complete brief periodic progress reports.

Team Collaboration: Attend mandatory staff meetings, training sessions, and maintain open communication with the supervisor and program coordinators.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Must be a currently enrolled student at Seton Hall University in good academic and disciplinary standing in the RISE SSS Program.

Strong interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills.

Demonstrated reliability, empathy, and a strong desire to support the success of fellow students.

Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding student information.

Must be enrolled in a matriculated program and registered at least half-time for Fall 2026

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Previous experience as a mentor, tutor, orientation leader, or active involvement in campus organizations.

Familiarity with the diverse resources and services available across the South Orange campus.

Strong organizational and time-management skills.
