The role

This is an opportunity to join Imagination's Linux Open Source Graphics Driver Team. You will primarily focus on developing Imagination's upstream Linux GPU kernel driver as part of the Linux kernel project. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to the rest of the open source graphics stack, including our upstream Mesa Vulkan driver. You will do this as part of a small dedicated team, working alongside other software teams implementing the existing driver stack for PowerVR hardware.

You will:

• Contribute to existing big open source projects, including the Linux kernel and Mesa
• Design and develop for the current and next generation graphics cores
• Get involved in all aspects of the software development cycle, from requirements, through design, implementation, code review and testing
• Maintain the drivers throughout the whole software and hardware life-cycles
• Work closely within the team and liaise externally with other research & development teams and the open source community
• Support customers and their partners in bringing new products to market

You'll have:

• Excellent C programming skills
• Excellent software design and problem solving skills
• A good understanding of computer architecture issues (virtual memory, MMUs, caches, etc.)
• A background or degree in Compute Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field
• Experience with managing and configuring a Linux system

You might also have:

• Experience in low-level driver development for Linux
• Experience of the Linux graphics stack (Linux DRM subsystem, Mesa, etc)
• Experience of upstreaming changes to an open source project
• Experience with modern graphics APIs (Vulkan, Open GL ES, EGL, etc)
• Experience with version control software (preferably Git)
• Knowledge of how graphics hardware works
• Familiarity with scripting languages, such as Python and Shell Script, e.g. Bash
