Executive Director of Football Player Personnel

Position Summary

The Department of Athletics at Michigan State is searching for an individual to work closely with the Head Football Coach and General Manager to build the football roster. They will oversee the evaluation process for the current roster and all talent acquisition, including transfer portal, high school, and junior college.  This role is critical to helping the program build the best roster possible to consistently compete at the highest level in college football. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Develop and implement a clear, concise and consistent process for evaluating the current roster and potential recruits
  • Evaluate the current roster (strengths/weaknesses) on a periodic basis to assist the coaching staff with long-term roster planning
  • Develop and manage a scouting system for high school recruits and transfer portal prospects
  • Serve as a designated off-campus recruiter to conduct live in-person evaluations of high school and junior college prospects
  • Engage with recruits and their families during on-campus unofficial and official visits
  • Mentor and lead the personnel staff (i.e., Offensive/Defensive Director of Player Personnel, Director of Scouting, student workers) to enhance their evaluation skills
  • Aid in completing advance scouting reports for the offensive/defensive staffs
  • Serve as the main point of contact for all contracted recruiting services
  • Serve as the main point of contact for visiting NFL scouts/personnel
  • Provide feedback to student-athletes regarding their potential draft status

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree
  • At least 5 year’s of experience in a leadership role for player evaluation in the sport of football at either the collegiate or professional level.
  • Excellent communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
