Sports Operations Assistant for Hockey
Position Summary
The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics at Michigan State is searching for candidates to join the Hockey program as a Sports Operations Assistant. This position will enhance the head coach's and hockey staff's effectiveness by providing assistance and leadership in the areas of compliance, marketing, recruiting, alumni relations, financial/budget planning, and special events. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Plan and coordinate Team Travel including: transportation, lodging, tickets and itineraries.
- Coordinate and facilitate monthly team meal calendar with nutrition staff and other staff members.
- Serve as communications liaison to other areas within the Athletic Department, hockey alumni, Blue Line Club and other outside entities.
- Serve as a game day liaison to the event management staff by handling the needs of special guests, alumni, hospitality, key ticket distribution and providing general game day support.
- Plan and coordinate the season ticket holder event, tailgating events, annual golf outing.
- Assist hockey staff with summer camps; hiring camp staff, payroll, marketing, etc.
- Support the Head Coach by completing tasks that include coordinating calendar, travel, email, staff meetings, radio show guests, and coach’s suite.
- Hire and supervise student workers.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a Bachelors degree in Athletic Administration, Physical Education or a closely related field; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in collegiate athletic administration; including program management, computer software applications, and coordination of athletic special events; and knowledge of NCAA and Big Ten rules; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
- Proficiency in both PC and Apple products including Microsoft Office
- Knowledge of NCAA and Big Ten rules
- Ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced environment and to work with frequent interruptions
- Exceptional communication and organizational skills are essential.
