Position Summary
The Event Venue Manager for the MSU Horticulture Gardens organizes and manages our rental venue events (weddings and private events held within the Gardens) and Garden’s hosted events and programs (Volunteer Dinner, Holiday Celebration, Educational Offerings, etc). For private events, this position will: provide facility coordination and on-site management; provide sales tours with prospective clients; secure and process payments; prepare, issue and, update contracts and publications with proper information; communicate with clients and vendors throughout the planning process; develop event layouts with clients. For garden-hosted events, this position will manage existing and new revenue-generating events including: determining layout, logistics, and agenda; arranging for speakers; making travel arrangements; providing communication and marketing; assisting with solicitation of sponsors, vendors, and in-kind donations; preparing and assessing budgets and evaluations; reconciling and preparing revenue/expense reports; securing and processing payments.
In addition, this position will also help the Garden promote and market the Gardens (by designing and developing promotional materials, including website and social media updates, brochures, advertisements, banners, newsletters, and other outreach information); manage student/temp employees hired to assist this position; manage the membership program and commemorative brick program.
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which would normally be acquired in a four-year college degree in Public Relations, Communications, Business, Hospitality Management or in an area related to the work being performed; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible and expansive work experience in event management, marketing of garden events, meeting with the public, donors, stakeholders; including planning and managing special events; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Require experience in word processing, database, spreadsheet, desktop publishing and/or presentation software. Position requires software specific to the operational activities would include the software use for processing payments. Valid vehicle operator's license required and eligibility to drive a university vehicle under MSU's Employee Driver Certification Policy.
Desired Qualifications
Convention Industry Council Certification - Certified Meeting Professional and Certified Tourist Ambassador designations. Transact store front experience.
