Position Summary(Basic Job Function)

This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides technical support. Responsibilities may include computer programming or operations; research support; medical patient care; technical equipment maintenance, repair, fabrication or operation; or other technical support functions.

Unit Position Summary

The MSU IT Infrastructure Support team consists of experienced networking professionals responsible for the planning, deployment, operation, and maintenance of the university’s critical infrastructure. This includes wired and wireless networks, DDI (DNS, DHCP, IPAM), switching and routing, and telecommunications services that support daily university operations. The team’s mission focuses on stewardship and administration of MSU’s core infrastructure. The prospective candidate reports to the Network Planning Manager and will support the Network Redundancy and Resiliency initiative, strengthening network stability, performance, and reliability. Responsibilities include assessing network health, identifying vulnerabilities, implementing improvements, and supporting cross-departmental collaboration. The role will also provide targeted technical support for the Henry Ford project, as requested by the CIO. This position requires strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, adaptability, and familiarity with enterprise networking technologies such as JunOS. The ideal candidate brings technical insight, teamwork, and a commitment to advancing MSU’s operational excellence.

Required Qualifications:

Advanced knowledge of networking concepts, protocols, and hardware components. Hands-on experience with Juniper or comparable switching technologies preferred. Strong communication skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively are essential.

Desired Qualifications

  • Familiarity with MSU’s network infrastructure or experience in a large institutional IT environment is highly desirable.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in network administration or a similar role.
  • Strong Customer Service skills
  • Experience with network monitoring and management tools.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
