As a Systems Accountant, you’ll oversee the Department’s financial systems, ensuring they meet both business needs and compliance standards while supporting best practice financial management. You’ll lead and manage the co-design and configuration of systems managed by the Shared Service provider, translating complex accounting requirements into clear, actionable processes and ensuring they align with Australian Accounting Standards and governance frameworks. Your key responsibilities will include managing system improvements, conducting financial analysis, and providing expert advice on financial policies and reporting.
You will demonstrate the ability to maintain strong relationships with stakeholders by delivering timely, accurate, and relevant advice, while managing system enhancements with minimal disruption to business operations. You’ll also need to stay ahead of emerging technologies and continuously look for ways to improve financial systems and processes to enhance business outcomes

What is an essential requirement:
- Degree in a financial or accounting discipline and current membership of an accredited professional accounting body (e.g. Institute of Chartered Accountants (Australia), CPA Australia).
- Strong information technology skills, including application support, system design, report generation, and demonstrated experience in building and implementing new financial information management systems and system upgrades.
- Well-developed knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and contemporary financial management and audit practices and the ability to apply these in developing a financial information management system.
