The Energy, Climate Change and Sustainability (ECCS) division within the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) is currently seeking to appoint an Executive Director Industry Decarbonisation to join their senior executive leadership team.

 

The Executive Director Industry Decarbonisation leads the strategic, policy development and operational management of initiatives to transform the carbon intensity of NSW industries, including high emitting sectors such as primary industries, manufacturing and mining. The role provides high level strategic advice to the Minister, Secretary and Deputy Secretary to inform decision making to drive industry uptake of low-emission technologies and practices, facilitate investment in decarbonisation and new low-emission industries, and demonstrate the benefits of low-carbon industry practices.

 

About You

 

To be successful in this position, you will be a strong people leader with strong technical expertise in the carbon industry. Specifically, you will be an industry-expert in carbon-related policies, strategies and programs. You will demonstrate strong stakeholder engagement and collaboration skills with stakeholders both internal and external to NSW government as well as having sound knowledge of effective carbon emission reduction schemes both domestically and internationally.  

 

Other key skills and experience include but are not limited to:

  • Lead and direct the prioritisation, development, implementation and review of policies and programs to ensure that the long-term competitiveness of NSW industry is supported by decarbonisation of high emitting industries and transition to a low carbon economy, including for hard-to-abate industries
  • Develop, apply, manage and adjust finance, market and investment mechanisms to enable carbon abatement in the land management sector and to stimulate demand for low carbon products using government agency offtake
  • Represent the agency to lead and direct consultation, collaboration and negotiation with stakeholders from the manufacturing, heavy industry and renewable fuels sectors on complex and highly sensitive carbon reduction approaches
  • Analyse, consult and develop strategic and operational approaches to decarbonisation for primary industries and land management sectors, with particular emphasis on working collaboratively with Aboriginal community land managers
  • Lead the provision of timely, expert and authoritative advice and recommendations to the Minister and Executive on the delivery of policy, regulatory, education, engagement and operational programs and associated contentious issues
  • Provide technical direction, coaching and peer review to the Industry Decarbonisation team, and implement developmental strategies to build capability and capacity to support effective performance and individual improvement
  • Contribute as a member of the ECCS leadership team to strategic and business planning, ensuring implications for strategic initiatives, critical legislative requirements, government targets and performance are represented and considered, and that integrated and efficient products, services and advice are delivered
  • Lead and coordinate cross-departmental processes and performance on grants and funding mechanisms, collaborating with Executive members to drive a consistent approach, monitor process effectiveness and efficiency and support alignment with organisational goals and priorities

 

Essential Requirements

 

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or equivalent relevant experience
