The Biodiversity Policy team within the Resilience and Sustainability Division is currently seeking to appoint a Planning Policy Officer to support the development and implementation of biodiversity policy initiatives and reforms through the planning system and in coordination with the NSW Government biodiversity legislation reform agenda.

Working in a multi-disciplinary team you will undertake research, analysis and project work to support the policy development, implementation and advice on biodiversity issues. The work is interesting, meaningful, topical and varied and includes planning policy work to support the NSW Plan for Nature, coastal environmental issues including wetlands, blue carbon and ecosystem restoration, vegetation management, koala protection and strategic biodiversity conservation. 

 

About you

You are passionate about environmental issues and ideally have some background knowledge in either the NSW planning system or biodiversity framework that you would like to build on in this role. You show great initiative, are an analytical and strategic thinker and have excellent written and verbal communication skills. You are organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple tasks and deadlines efficiently and are proactive at seeking guidance and collaborating with others to ensure you can effectively perform your role. Your commitment to learning new subject matter, continuous professional improvement and an ability to work in a very collegiate team environment will be key to your success in this role.

Essential requirements

  • Tertiary qualification in public policy, planning, law, economics, ecology, geographical information systems or other relevant discipline or equivalent experience.
