The role

As a Senior Archivist, your primary role is to ensure the accessibility and effective management of archiving programs across the department. You will advocate for best practices in storage, retention, disposal, and transfer of records and information. This involves developing and maintaining processes and training programs, managing the archiving, transfer and destruction of time-expired records, and overseeing the retrieval, and movement of both electronic and physical records.

 

Key challenges include staying updated with developments and technologies across the department's diverse functions and ensuring compliance with the State Records Act and Disposal Authorities. You will need to prioritise a large volume of work, seek synergies, and develop strategic solutions. Establishing collaborative relationships with stakeholders to continuously improve archiving practices is essential for success in this role.

What you will bring to the role

  • Extensive Knowledge and Experience: Demonstrated extensive knowledge of records and archival management principles and practices, including the use and application of General and Functional Retention and Disposal Schedules.
  • Technological Proficiency: Proficiency in using Electronic Document and Records Management Systems (EDRMS), preferably Content Manager (CM), including archiving functions.
  • Compliance and Best Practices: Strong understanding of the obligations and statutory responsibilities under the State Records Act (NSW) and the Australian Standard AS ISO 15489 (Records Management).
  • Leadership and Collaboration: Ability to lead a team and oversee strategies for best value outcomes, establish collaborative relationships with stakeholders, and continuously improve archiving practices.
  • Customer Focus and Integrity: Commitment to customer service, acting with integrity, and promoting a culture of ethical and professional behaviour within the organization.

 

Key knowledge and experience

  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the obligations and statutory responsibilities of the State Records Act (NSW) and the Australian Standard AS ISO 15489 (Records Management)
  • Demonstrated extensive knowledge of records & archival management principles and practices
  • Demonstrated experience in the use and application of General and Functional Retention and Disposal Schedules

What is an essential requirement:

  • Relevant qualifications or equivalent experience in records management.
