About the role
The Senior Scientist is responsible for providing advanced technical, scientific, and analytical support for climate change-related programs. This role plays a key part in delivering the NSW Climate Change Adaptation Strategy and focuses on two critical areas:
- Data Leadership for MERI: Leading the data delivery requirements for Monitoring, Evaluation, Reporting, and Improvement (MERI) for the Strategy. This includes supporting data collections for strategic evaluation, defining data governance, and developing a comprehensive data collection and management plan.
- Insight Development: Translating climate change data and information from across disciplines into practical, decision-ready insights to support environmental decision-making.
The Senior Scientist will be part of the Adaptation Impact and Risk Science (AIRS) team, which is at the forefront of delivering science and knowledge to internal and external partners across government. The AIRS team is multidisciplinary and dynamic, with expertise in integrated research, strategic program coordination, and knowledge brokering. Together, the team supports the implementation of actions outlined in the NSW Climate Change Adaptation Strategy.
About You
To be successful in this role, you must have
- Relevant scientific qualifications and/or demonstrated experience in delivering data-driven projects.
- Strong knowledge and proven experience in developing Monitoring, Evaluation, Reporting, and Improvement (MERI) strategies.
- High proficiency in using GIS, Python, Power BI, and/or AI to process and translate large datasets (e.g., NetCDF) into end-user datasets, online tools, and model inputs.
- Demonstrated ability to be highly adaptable and customer-focused, with a track record of working across disciplines to develop practical, data-driven solutions.
