About the role
National Parks and Wildlife Service has a unique opportunity for two Part time Discovery Guides (Tour Guides) to work as part of the team and contribute towards the conservation of the natural environment, flora, fauna and heritage.
The Greater Sydney Branch is currently seeking to appoint Discovery Guides to implement diverse activities and learning experiences for visitors across various locations to foster community awareness, appreciation and understanding for conserving the state’s natural and cultural heritage. This educational role will focus on conducting weekday excursions for primary and secondary school groups as well as leisure and school holiday programs across Greater Sydney. This role is scheduled for 32 hours per fortnightly roster which will include one Sunday per fortnight.
About you
Your strong communication skills are paramount to the success of this role. You will be delivering programs to different stakeholders and will need to be able to think on your feet to respond to various questions and situations. Self-management is important for this role as there may be times you will be working alone and will need to ensure safety is a priority meeting the required Work Health Safety standards. Your experience in teaching and education will be highly valued. Demonstrated passion for geography and science, the Australian environment and awareness of NPWS values.
Essential requirements
- Current Working with Children check
- Senior First Aid certificate
Key knowledge and experience
- Practical experience in interpretive and educational guiding or in delivering training or class room experiences.
- Understanding of the role of the Department, and a broad knowledge of the natural values and cultural history of the local area.
- Awareness of Aboriginal Culture.
