At the heart of the New South Wales (NSW) planning system, the Planning Group takes centre stage. Driven by the NSW Government’s unwavering commitment to tackle the critical housing issue, we provide essential support and strategic guidance. The Planning Land Use Strategy, Housing and Infrastructure (PLUSHI) team are the driving force behind the Department's strategic planning, policy, rezoning, and infrastructure projects, all aimed at making New South Wales a better place to live.
The Team Leader, Housing Policy and Code manages a team responsible for the review, update and implementation of NSW planning policy to help deliver an increased supply of diverse housing.

What you will bring to the role
Managing a team of planning professionals to deliver technical expertise that supports housing outcomes across NSW, you will lead and support research and analysis to inform State-led planning policies aimed at increasing the supply of diverse housing types in well located areas and identify research trends and priorities to inform work programs, planning and resourcing requirements.
Recent reforms delivered in this team include the Low and Mid-Rise Housing Policy. The role will help to monitor such reforms for efficacy and develop new policies to help the pipeline of diverse housing supply continue to grow.
Key knowledge and experience
- Clear understanding of the NSW planning system and relevant legislation.
- An ability to analyse data to guide planning decisions.
- Experience in managing a team and managing projects
- Understanding of the roles and responsibilities of State and local government authorities and the private sector in the delivery of new diverse housing.
- A good understanding of contemporary planning issues, government policy and trends in the development industry
- A consistently positive and collaborative approach, with strong team leadership qualities
- A keen focus on innovation, design excellence, sustainability and place-based solutions
Essential requirements
- Degree in planning, urban design, environmental management or a related field
