Are you a passionate leader, visionary thinker or advocate for science, education and conservation? The Royal Botanic Gardens & Domain Trust (the Trust) is seeking new Trustees to guide the future of botanic science and public spaces in NSW.

Who We Are

Botanic Gardens of Sydney, the registered business name of the Trust, is the custodian of more than $1.2 billion in state-significant cultural, heritage and scientific assets, encompassing Australia’s premier botanical research institute, Sydney’s leading outdoor entertainment and activation precinct, and three world-leading botanic gardens:

  • Royal Botanic Garden Sydney
  • The Domain
  • Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan
  • Blue Mountains Botanic Garden Mount Tomah
  • Australian Institute of Botanical Science

Together, these places form the heart of Botanic Gardens of Sydney, Australia’s oldest scientific institution and a global leader in conservation, research, and education. We are a purpose-driven organisation tackling some of the world’s most urgent environmental challenges, with a vision of putting plants at the heart of a thriving world.

What You’ll Do

As a Trust Board Member, you’ll play a key role in:

  • Stewarding iconic public lands and world-renowned gardens for future generations
  • Championing scientific excellence by helping to expand and share knowledge about Australian plant life through research, education, and outreach
  • Promoting public access to Trust lands by increasing their educational, historical, cultural and recreational value
  • Shaping the strategic direction of one of Australia’s most influential cultural institutions to respond to emerging environmental and community needs

This is a unique opportunity to lend your voice, leadership, and vision to an organisation that blends history, science, and public value in extraordinary ways.

Who We’re Looking For

The Trust is looking for highly motivated, influential, and passionate individuals interested in becoming new Board Members. This recruitment round has a particular focus on appointing new Trustees with the skills and experience to contribute to the Trust’s Audit and Risk Committee. As such, we are seeking individuals with strong capabilities in financial literacy, accounting, risk management, and audit (both internal and external). Experience in philanthropy, donor engagement, and fundraising (across both corporate and private sectors) would also be highly valued, as the Trust continues to grow its impact through partnerships and philanthropy.
