The role
At the AMRF the Lead Engineer, Additive Manufacturing plays a hands-on role in shaping the future of metal 3D printing in Australia. You’ll lead a cutting-edge team delivering projects using multi-laser or ring-laser powder bed fusion technologies, working closely with industry partners to deliver high-performance solutions across a diverse range of applications. It’s about more than just engineering—it’s about driving innovation, solving complex technical challenges, and helping critical industries build confidence in adopting metal additive technology through structured certification efforts.
You’ll guide a talented team, optimise manufacturing workflows, and ensure safety and quality standards are met, all while juggling multiple projects and collaborating across disciplines. What you will bring to the role
-
Demonstrable experience leading and developing metal AM solutions in an industrial setting. This includes a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of design for manufacture, laser powder bed fusion technology, controls for materials processing and inspection, and project management within a quality systems framework.

A lead-from-the-front culture where you’ll develop innovative solutions to complex problems leveraging the AMRF’s Additive Manufacturing portfolio, specifically driving all certification efforts for industry.

Sound knowledge and experience operating L-PBF technology platforms and associated equipment. This includes requirements gathering, part design, process parameter development and evaluation, post-processing technologies, and authoring and presenting technical material.

Demonstrated experience in an engineering or technical design familiar with experience in new product introduction, product lifecycle management, and/or manufacturing vendor relations.

Experience building, leading, and growing high performing technical teams.

Knowledge and experience in creating and approving technical drawings per ASME Y14.5 or AS1100.
What is an essential requirement:

Tertiary qualifications in industrial, aerospace, mechatronic, mechanical, manufacturing engineering, or related disciplines, or demonstrated, equivalent, relevant professional experience and training.

Hands-on experience in the operation, loading/unloading, powder management, validation & verification, and post-processing of metal AM components.

Ability to be onsite at the AMRF 4 days per week in Bradfield, NSW.
