DCCEEW is currently seeking to appoint a Principal Estuary Specialist to lead the coordination and delivery of high-impact coastal programs and projects across NSW. In this role, you will contribute to the development of state-wide technical guidance on estuary management. Providing expert technical and policy advice to the NSW Government, agency staff, local councils and other stakeholders on estuary processes, estuary management and coastal hazards and risks.

As a technical expert within the Marine, Coastal Estuaries and Floods Team the role supports assessment of estuaries health and coastal hazards to assist coastal communities, local councils and other agencies to manage risk to the coastal environment and adapt to climate change.

 

About You

You are a highly experienced coastal and estuarine specialist with a strong foundation in marine science, coastal engineering, or a related field. You bring expert knowledge of estuary processes, coastal hazards, and environmental risk management, along with a proven ability to translate complex technical data into strategic advice and practical policy solutions. Passionate about protecting coastal environments and supporting communities to adapt to climate change, you have led the design and implementation of estuary and coastal management projects and programs across diverse regions.

 

Key knowledge and experience

  • Expert knowledge of coastal and estuary processes and coastal management approaches.
  • Comprehensive understanding of coastal legislation and related policies and ability to interpret to others.
  • Tertiary qualifications in marine and environmental science, civil engineering or related field.
