About the role

The National Parks and Wildlife Service has a unique opportunity for a Project Officer, Snowy 2.0 Planning to join a close-knit, high performing team based in Tumut and Jindabyne, responsible for planning and implementation of the Kosciuszko Offsets Project.

The Kosciuszko Offsets Project is a long-term (20+ year) restoration program which aims to improve the natural, cultural and recreational values of Kosciuszko National Park in response to impacts from the Snowy 2.0 Pumped-hydro and Transmission Project. Through implementation of the Kosciuszko Offset Strategy and action plans being developed under it, the Kosciuszko Offsets Project targets a nature-positive benefit for impacted threatened species, ecological communities and ecosystems. More information is available on the Kosciuszko Offsets Project here.

We are looking for a Project Officer with experience in the delivery of conservation land management and restoration projects to work with the Senior Project Officer, Snowy 2.0 Planning and Snowy 2.0 Manager on delivery of the Kosciuszko Offsets Project. The role entails both policy/planning and field-based project activities such as

  • working with subject matter experts internally and across government to develop, publish and periodically review the implementation of action plans for offset species, ecological communities and ecosystems; and
  • developing and budgeting for annual work programs of conservation actions in identified offset areas and working with field-based personnel to direct the completion of those actions and report on them.

About You

You are an experienced conservation and land management professional who will relish the long-term challenge of improving the natural, cultural and recreational values of Kosciuszko National Park. You are passionate about field-based conservation and restoration projects, while also being disciplined about planning and implementing them safely and in accordance with agency budgetary and policy demands. You are willing to work collaboratively with other NPWS and cross-agency teams to negotiate a preferred approach to conservation actions and contribute to our team’s reporting obligations. Ideally you have familiarity with Australian alpine, sub-alpine and montane flora and fauna, and an adaptable approach to the delivery of projects in difficult and remote operating environments.

Essential Requirements

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications and/or equivalent relevant working experience in project management.
  • Experience in development and delivery of projects, including the development of project plans, monitoring of project timelines, budgets and reporting requirements, and contract administration.
