The Royal Botanic Garden Sydney sits on Gadigal land by Sydney Harbour. It’s home to diverse plant collections, Australia’s oldest scientific institution, and a top national attraction.
The role
This hands-on role will see you providing horticultural care and maintenance for plants across the Botanic Gardens of Sydney. You’ll be involved in a wide range of tasks across the breadth of the horticulture industry.
You’ll work closely with your team, labourers and apprentices to keep our displays looking their best. If you love working outdoors, enjoy discovering new plants, and have a solid knowledge of horticultural practices, this role offers a great opportunity to grow your skills in a unique and beautiful environment.

What you will bring to the role
- Experience in maintaining parks, gardens or horticultural landscapes, with a solid understanding of plant care and seasonal maintenance.
- A passion for plants and the environment, with a genuine interest in contributing to the care and conservation of our unique living collections.
- A hands-on, proactive attitude and the ability to work well in a team to deliver high-quality horticultural outcomes.
- Strong understanding of workplace health and safety policies, with the ability to implement safe work practices.
- Proficiency in using and maintaining horticultural machinery and equipment to industry standards.
What is an essential requirement:
- Certificate lll in either Horticulture or Parks & Gardens or equivalent qualifications with experience in the maintenance of horticultural displays, pest and disease control, weed management, plant nutrition and irrigation control and in the maintenance and use of all associated plant and equipment.
- Current driver’s licence with the ability to drive manual vehicles and willingness to undertake fieldwork for extended periods of time and have the ability to lift and carry a minimum 15 kilos.
- Ability to work outside of normal working hours and on weekends if required.
