About the role

The NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water’s (DCCEEW) Ministerial Services Branch (MSB) is seeking a Senior Ministerial Liaison Officer.

This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive and positive person to join a dedicated and high performing team.

Senior Ministerial Liaison Officers ensure high quality timely advice is provided to Ministers and DCCEEW executives to facilitate decision making and clearly communicate positions on environment, heritage, climate change and energy matters.

Working in MSB provides a broad overview of governance, public policy and programs, with opportunities to contribute to briefings and correspondence on a wide range of initiatives DCCEEW undertakes to deliver the best outcomes for the environment and communities. It also offers a wide variety of career development opportunities.

 

About you

As a Senior Ministerial Liaison Officer, you will be responsible for delivering tasks in a fast moving and high-volume environment.

You will draft, coordinate, review and edit briefing materials and correspondence, ensuring they are comprehensive, accurate, risk assessed and delivered on time.

Strong organisational skills are key to you successfully managing competing demands and tight deadlines. You will need to maintain attention to detail in delivering tasks in tight and challenging timeframes.

You will need to use diplomacy, astute judgement and strong research and analytical skills in evaluating and providing advice on potentially sensitive issues. You will have excellent communication skills.

You will keep the customer at the front of mind. Nurturing and sustaining excellent relationships and working collaboratively with colleagues across DCCEEW, as well as other stakeholders across Government, is essential in delivering the results that will be expected of you.

 

Key knowledge and experience

  • Experience in providing high level advice on complex/sensitive/controversial issues to senior management or ministerial level.
  • Sound understanding of the machinery of Government, the policy process and relevant legislation.
