  • TRP from $225,740 - $249,843 including superannuation, commensurate with experience

Our Communications and Marketing Division is currently seeking a Director of Media, Communications, and Engagement who will be responsible for shaping the Department’s narrative and safeguarding its reputation.  

As the Director Media, Communication and Engagement you will play a pivotal role in defining the Department’s public voice, ensuring its reputation is safeguarded, and its narrative is strategically aligned with Government priorities.

You will lead high-profile communications campaigns, provide expert media guidance, and craft community engagement strategies that resonate with diverse audiences.

About You

You are a strategic thinker and seasoned communicator, with extensive experience navigating complex media environments. Your ability to manage high-pressure, high-stakes situations with confidence and precision sets you apart. With a deep understanding of government, you are adept at leveraging media relationship to enhance reputation and deliver impactful campaigns.

To be successful in this role, you will have proven experience in managing contentious media issues. You are a team player who is willing to work closely with colleagues across the Division and Department to co-design and deliver strategic communications initiatives.

This is a dynamic, hands-on role where you’ll actively shape and deliver high-impact communications. You’ll be deeply involved in writing, driving campaign execution, and ensuring the quality of all outputs. We’re looking for someone who leads by example and is ready to roll up their sleeves, take ownership, and make things happen.  

As a leader, you excel at building and maintaining influential relationships, engaging senior stakeholders including Ministerial Offices with confidence and professionalism.

You have a proven track record of leading teams through periods of change, fostering a culture of collaboration, and delivering results under tight deadlines.

 

Key Knowledge and Experience

  • Degree qualification in communications, media, journalism, or relevant discipline or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Experience operating at a strategic level, providing advice and influencing senior executives on media, communications, and engagement strategies.
  • Proven record in managing contentious media issues.
  • Exceptional writing and editorial skills.
