The role
Sydney Olympic Park Authority, part of the Homes, Property, Development and Workplace within the Department of Planning, Housing and Industry , is currently seeking to appoint a Senior Urban Planner to support the efficient and timely assessment of development applications, provide planning advice to internal and external clients, and contribute to State Significant projects. In this role, you’ll help deliver a robust and effective state planning system that supports strategic infrastructure, economic development, and growth objectives.
You’ll play a key role in shaping the future of Sydney Olympic Park by ensuring developments align with statutory requirements, government policies, and the Park’s Master Plan. This includes assessing proposals, managing consultant inputs, and contributing to long-term strategic planning for the Park’s ongoing renewal. Success in this role will rely on your ability to balance diverse priorities in a dynamic environment, foster productive relationships, and translate the Park’s vision into practical, sustainable urban outcomes.

What you will bring to the role
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to critically assess complex planning matters and provide well-considered recommendations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare high-quality reports, briefing notes, and clear conditions of consent.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of relevant planning legislation, policies and procedures, and their practical application in a range of assessment contexts.
- Proven experience in the assessment of development applications and delivering sound planning outcomes within set timeframes.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and consultation skills, with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships across internal and external stakeholders.
- A proactive and innovative mindset to identify opportunities for process improvement and contribute to the development of policies and assessment frameworks.
- The ability to work effectively in a team environment, manage competing priorities, and deliver results that support organisational goals.
- Commitment to continuous learning, professional development, and contributing to a culture of quality and collaboration.
What is an essential requirement:
- Tertiary qualifications in urban planning or related discipline with demonstrated experience in both the statutory and strategic areas of planning.
