We’re seeking a talented Spatial Analytics Specialist to deliver advanced geospatial intelligence that drives strategic water compliance and regulatory decision‑making across NSW.
Spatial Analytics at the Natural Resource Access Regulator (NRAR): Team Overview
At NRAR, spatial analysts play a vital role in supporting the regulation of water use across New South Wales. The team works across two complementary and overlapping focus areas - Operations and Analytics - with flexibility for collaboration, skill-sharing, and shared responsibilities as needed.
In this role, you’ll work with advanced GIS, remote sensing and earth‑observation technologies to bring clarity to complex challenges. You’ll integrate and analyse diverse datasets, model spatial risk, and uncover patterns in water use — all to help identify potential non‑compliance and support targeted field operations.
Your expertise will contribute directly to safeguarding water for communities, industry and the environment.
You’ll also play a key part in maintaining high‑quality spatial data systems, shaping best‑practice standards, and providing expert guidance across GIS, data management, and mapping.
Collaboration is central to this role: you’ll support internal teams, engage with external stakeholders, and help ensure spatial products meet real operational needs.

About You
You thrive in fast‑paced environments where rapid learning and working with new, leading‑edge geospatial and natural resource technologies is part of everyday life.
You’re a strong collaborator who enjoys working with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to develop and maintain spatial data systems and products that are truly fit‑for‑purpose.
With excellent organisational skills, you balance high‑volume operational demands with longer‑term project goals, maintaining focus, quality and attention to detail even when priorities shift.
Essential Requirements

Relevant degree level tertiary qualification in Spatial Sciences, GIS, remote sensing, Science, Natural Resources or related discipline or equivalent experience.

Extensive experience in in GIS and spatial data management, spatial analysis and modelling techniques, system development and user support.

Experience in the automation of processes, through scripting or batch job creation as well as the visualisation and presentation of spatial information (i.e. cartography and web mapping applications) including understanding of map projections and reference systems.

Natural Resources Access Regulator (NRAR)
NRAR enforces the NSW water laws and offers guidance and education to help water users comply and undertakes detailed spatial analyses to both proactively detect and deter potential non-compliance.
We strive to be an efficient and effective regulator that celebrates and reflects the diversity of the community we serve.
Working with NRAR gives spatial analysts the opportunity to apply their geospatial expertise in support of regulatory operations. Spatial analysts play a key role in ensuring lawful water use by delivering advanced spatial analytics to support strategic water compliance initiatives and targeted compliance actions, NRAR’s spatial work underpins efficient and effective compliance for fair and sustainable water use across New South Wales.
