Scope of Position

The Dry Cleaner is responsible for ensuring that all guest garments and uniforms are meticulously cleaned and finished to the highest standards set by Mandarin Oriental Downtown, Dubai. This role requires exceptional technical expertise in operating dry-cleaning machinery, handling specialized chemicals, and applying advanced garment care techniques. The Dry Cleaner must be knowledgeable in fabric types, stain identification, and appropriate treatment methods to preserve the integrity of each item. Collaboration with the laundry valet and the broader laundry team is essential to maintain seamless operations and exceed guest expectations.

Responsibilities

Departmental:

  • Operate dry-cleaning machines and handle chemicals safely, ensuring that all garments are treated according to their specific care instructions.
  • Identify and pre-spot stains on garments before processing, using the correct products and methods to prevent damage.
  • Utilize the correct washing and drying programs for different types of garments, ensuring optimal results without compromising fabric quality.
  • Perform hand washing of delicate garments when necessary, following the prescribed care instructions.
  • Inspect each garment before and after cleaning to ensure it meets the hotel's quality standards. Notify guests through an information card if any stains could not be removed.
  • Assist with pressing and finishing garments to maintain a professional appearance and high standard of service.
  • Keep the laundry area clean and organized, ensuring all equipment is well-maintained and safe to operate.

Colleague Relations:

  • Foster a positive work environment, promote teamwork, and address any conflicts or issues that arise.
  • Support and collaborate with the laundry valet and other team members to ensure efficient operation of laundry services.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and performance evaluations to maintain high standards of service.
  • Participate in regular meetings with management and staff to discuss operational updates, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.

Guest Relations:

  • Respond promptly and professionally to guest inquiries related to laundry services, providing assistance and resolving any issues with a positive attitude.
  • Take ownership of guest complaints related to laundry services, ensuring they are resolved to the guest’s satisfaction.
  • Engage with guests when applicable, ensuring customer satisfaction in accordance with MOHG Legendary Quality Experiences (LQEs).
  • Create WOW moments to surprise and delight in-house guests.

Skills and Qualifications

Education & Certificates:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Vocational Diploma in Textiles, Fabric Care, or a related field is preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working as a dry cleaner in a luxury hotel environment.
  • Experience in the Middle East is an advantage.

Technical Skills

  • Proficient in operating dry-cleaning machinery and handling chemicals safely.
  • Strong knowledge of fabric types, stain treatment, and garment care techniques.

Communication and Language skills

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in English are required.
  • Arabic speaker is an advantage.

Behavioral Skills

  • High level of attention to detail, with the ability to organize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and perform tasks that require physical effort.
  • Flexibility to work overnight shifts as required.
