Position Summary: The WLJS-FM news & talk director helps the program director plan, manage, and supervise the content and broadcasting of WLJS-FM, JSU’s student-run radio station, across all its platforms, which may include terrestrial broadcasting, digital streaming audio, podcasts, the web, social media, and other forms of media. Specifically, the news & talk director is responsible for developing informational and entertainment programming that relies on speech and conversation to ensure WLJS provides programs that are of value to JSU students and the broader university community. As a member of the WLJS student staff, the news & talk director works closely with the other student staff members and with the director of student media. The news & talk director must be or become familiar with the Society of Professional Journalists’ Code of Ethics and use the code as a guide. The news & talk director also must be or become familiar with FCC requirements pertaining to WLJS’s broadcast license and help ensure compliance with those requirements from the student staff. Positions may be filled based on individual applicants’ skills, qualifications, and departmental needs. Adheres to all department and University policies and procedures. |
