General Summary of Position:

Full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate in ionospheric weather and data rescue sought for 36 month position at The Space Science Laboratory, University of Massachusetts Lowell.

The candidate will search and rescue ionosonde data records for quality control, harmonization, and ingestion in the databases of the Lowell GIRO Data Center (LGDC), in consultations with the project sponsor, following established international standards for ionosonde data exchange.

You will contribute to operational software and database architecture development of the next-generation ionosonde data infrastructure at LGDC, unattended tools for data retrieval from public online resources, and common-use libraries for data visualization, interactive analysis, and dissemination of high level ionosonde, GNSS, and IRTAM/GAMBIT computational model products.

The candidate will develop, test, validate, and transition to operations the analysis software for innovative use of ionosonde data, including the pyNeDIPP ionosphere-plasmasphere-polar cap Digisonde-assisted assimilative modeling system.

You will support proposal development, Prepare and publish papers in scientific journals and present the SSL’s ionosonde and GNSS-assisted weather ionospheric modeling research at the national and international radio science conferences.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Ph.D. in Geophysics, Space Weather, or related field, experience in statistical data analysis, data search and retrieval, and expert command of Python and software libraries.
  • Experience in MySQL or equivalent is preferred.

  • A disciplined, procedure-controlled, test-and-validation development for operational applications is expected.
