The Senior Business Analyst will partner with customers within the university, analysing and defining requirements and functionality for information systems and other solutions to meet the University's business needs. The focus of this role is to work closely with the key business stakeholders to gain in-depth understanding of business strategy, processes, services, roadmap, and documenting capabilities needed to address business challenges. The position provides analysis services through formal projects and on a consulting basis, with the aim of enabling the University to improve its processes and develop its business. In addition, the Senior Business Analyst leads the planning of business analysis engagements and is accountable for the quality of business analysis outcomes and the performance of the business analysis team on specific engagements. The Senior Business Analyst will be part of the Universal Constituent Master (UCM) stream enabling the implementation of the Informatica Master Data Management (MDM) for the UCM (or golder student record) solution. They will be assigned to the Lead Management + Master Data Management Program, working in close partnership with the Agile Program Manager who is responsible for the technical delivery of the program, and with the MDM Business Lead who is responsible for the overall UCM solution.
The Senior BA will report to the Head of Integration Technologies in IT and will have no direct reports.
Specific accountabilities for this role include:
- Review and Lead the UCM functional specifications and finalise the UCM business requirements in collaboration with the various business subject matter experts, customers, and the UCM implementation team.
- Provide subject matter expertise in the designing of the recommended solution addressing the business requirements.
- Perform a lead role in driving process improvements, investigating, analysing, and documenting business processes, procedures and work instructions for the UCM implementation and ongoing support of the solution.
- Participate in the preparation of stage gate materials, which define potential benefits, options for achieving these benefits through development of new or changed processes, and associated business risks.
- Perform a key role in the UCM stream, working collaboratively with the Agile Project Manager, MDM Business Lead, vendors, and business users, including managing project scope, impact assessments, risk analysis, testing and co-ordinating with various stakeholders to ensure successful outcomes.
- Develop user stories with clear acceptance criteria. A user story is a requirement for any functionality or feature to be configured or developed for the UCM or Lead Management solution. (The term ‘requirement’ has different names in different project methodologies. In Waterfall, it is referred to as a “Requirement/Specification Document”, in Agile or SCRUM it is referred to as an “Epic” or “User Story”.
- Plan, execute, provide functional test plans and guidance to testers with System Integration Testing (SIT) & User Acceptance Testing (UAT)
- System Testing - Provide guidance to the vendor; System Testing verifies that each application works according to specification. The test is focused on the changes to the application itself, as well as the internal functions of the application. Walkthroughs will need to be conducted by the Business Analyst with support from business Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to review Business Processes, Scenarios or test cases to ensure correct coverage and if required write new test cases prior to the commencement of System Testing.
- Build, manage and maintain successful relationships with various stakeholders including business process owners, customers, technical analyst, developers, and Student Services & Systems teams.
- Perform a lead role in recommending an appropriate business analysis approach, toolsets, work standards and deliverables to be employed by business analysts on a project.

Skills and Experience:
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline, or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training, and experience within IT.
- Demonstrated experience as a business analyst or equivalent experience in business system analysis or business systems support role, in a large and complex organisation, ideally in higher education.
- Have a working knowledge of data management disciplines and practices specifically in MDM.
- Grounded experience in at least 1 MDM implementation.
- Have a working knowledge of Student data preferably in a Higher Education context.
- Extensive knowledge of and experience in a range of application development methodologies including ‘agile’, ‘waterfall’, ‘lean’, ‘rapid’ application development methodologies, and usage of Jira
- High-level knowledge and competency in the use of professional business analysis techniques and methods
- Well-developed skills in the use of standard office toolsets including the MS Office suite, drawing/diagramming tools and project management tools
- Advanced consultation, influencing and negotiation skills and proven ability to engage effectively with diverse range of stakeholders at different levels within an organisation to achieve successful outcomes.
- Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills and proven capacity to exercise initiative, flexibility and to be proactive in development of robust solutions to problems.
- Proven excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal) with the ability to facilitate workshops and establish effective working relationships with fellow IT colleagues, the business and other stakeholders.
- Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
