About this role and why it matters 

The Lead, Policy and Contracts – Employability holds a key role within the Pro Vice-Chancellor Student Success Portfolio, Experience Pillar, Employability Theme in the provision of high- level advice to key stakeholders internally and externally to achieve implementation of Employability initiatives and activities, often including external partners. 

This role requires up-to-date knowledge and expertise of legislative, regulatory, policy, and strategic issues associated with employability and partnerships, and includes management of complex case escalations from Faculties and Divisions. The successful person will work closely with the UNSW Legal, UNSW Risk, Faculties and relevant Divisions to coordinate legal arrangements for Employability. The role also works closely with the Lead, Work Integrated Learning to coordinate the assessment and resolution of matters and issues relating to employability and partnerships.  

The role reports to the Head of Employability and has no direct report. This is a full-time ongoing position.  

Main overall responsibilities Summary 

  • In collaboration with UNSW Legal and UNSW Risk, provide high-level advice on a range of strategic and operational matters relevant to legislative, regulatory and policy issues associated with employability and partnerships. 

  • Provide high-level and expert advice on policy and contracts in alignment with UNSW’s strategic priorities and regulatory requirements in collaboration with UNSW Divisions including but not limited to the Divisions of Education and Student Experience, External Engagement, Planning and Assurance, and Strategy and Societal Impact 

  • Provide high-level expert advice and support to the Head of Employability on strategic and operational matters escalated by Faculties and Divisions for complex case management 

  • Lead and manage initiatives to facilitate an engaged student journey in cooperation with relevant teams to deliver effective student communication, participation, recruitment, and outcomes within the Employability Theme 

  • Direct, advise and oversee the development, implementation, and ongoing review of policies and procedures related to employability and partnerships at UNSW 

  • Interpret and manage strategic requirements and deliverables and provide proactive advice and solution-focused action in a timely and accurate manner 

Who You Are 

We are looking for someone who is aligned with UNSW’s vision and values and who comes equipped with: 

  • Demonstrated experience in managing employability and WIL projects related to the development and/or review of policies and quality assurance processes in developing, delivering, and continually improving programs, processes, and systems 

  • Demonstrated experience in reviewing relevant legislative and institutional policies related to employability including but not limited to TEQSA and Fair Work Act 

  • Demonstrated experience in providing high-level strategic advice on policies and contracts in alignment with institutional strategic priorities 

  • Extensive experience at a senior level in leading and managing complex cases that involve significant liaison and negotiation between internal and external stakeholders, including government, industry, and community partners 

  • High-level leadership, negotiation and influencing skills, and proven ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders and teams, alongside a high-performance mindset 

  • Demonstrated level of attention to detail for deliverables produced, including significant experience in writing high-quality analysis, submissions, reports and recommendations 

  • Demonstrated success to work independently, and as a leader, undertaking multiple projects; effectively coordinating staff, resources, time and budget to deliver quality outcomes to meet strategic goals 

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range stakeholders, including clearly articulating and reinforcing existing policies and process changes 

Working hours are Monday to Friday, business hours. The team works on a hybrid basis.
