Why your role matters
The three Senior Lead roles within Student Systems—Core Connections, Projects, and Core Applications—work collaboratively to provide strategic leadership, operational excellence, and digital innovation across UNSW’s student systems landscape. Together, they ensure that student-facing platforms, core applications, and transformation projects are stable, scalable, and aligned with the University’s strategic priorities. Each position drives continuous improvement, fosters collaboration across academic and professional divisions, and leads multi-disciplinary teams to enhance both the student and staff experience.
Reporting to the Head of Student Systems & Projects, each Senior Lead role is responsible for managing a team that includes operational manager(s) and other professional staff, with team composition and size varying by portfolio.
Senior Lead – Core Connections
This role focuses on student-facing digital platforms, CRM stewardship, and business enablement through automation, AI and other emerging tech opportunities. It champions user-centred design, process improvement, and digital adoption across the student systems ecosystem, ensuring innovation is balanced with stability and simplification.
Senior Lead – Projects
This position oversees the efficient delivery of major student systems projects and programs, achieved through effective governance, prioritisation, and execution. It translates strategic goals into measurable outcomes and partners with the other two portfolio’s, as well as project delivery teams across IT, faculties, and other service units to deliver transformative initiatives on time and within scope.
Senior Lead – Core Applications
This role provides strategic custodianship of the University’s core student information systems, including SiMS (PeopleSoft Campus Solutions) and integrated applications. It ensures these systems are stable, optimised, compliant, and continuously improved to support UNSW’s digital transformation and the full student lifecycle.
About You:
- Significant senior experience in information systems, business technology, project management, or a related discipline.
 - Proven leadership in complex, large-scale organisations—ideally within higher education—delivering digital, systems, or project transformation initiatives.
 - Strong expertise in governance, compliance, and integration across enterprise systems, ensuring operational stability and strategic alignment.
 - Demonstrated ability to influence senior executives and governance bodies through evidence-based insights and data-driven recommendations.
 - Accountability for vendor and procurement governance, with experience managing contracts, budgets, and commercial relationships.
 - Advanced analytical, strategic planning, and problem-solving skills, with a continuous improvement and systems-thinking mindset.
 - Demonstrated success leading service improvement, process optimisation, and digital enablement initiatives.
 - Proven ability to foster collaboration across organisational boundaries, promoting agile, adaptive, and transparent ways of working.
 - Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the capacity to engage, negotiate, and build trust with diverse stakeholders.
 - Experience navigating and leading change in large, matrixed or federated organisational structures.
 - Understanding of student administration processes and systems within the higher education context (highly desirable).
