Why Your Role Matters

The Educational and Assessment Designer, role is based in the Curriculum and Educational Design Team within the UNSW Pro Vice-Chancellor, Education (PVCE)’s Educational Excellence Team.

The PVCE is the central education and student learning hub of UNSW, providing university-wide academic leadership and educational services and resources to support an excellent educational experience. Working collaboratively with faculties, academic staff and professional teams, the role supports the implementation of UNSW’s commitment to educational excellence, staff capability development, and a world-class student experience. The team collectively is responsible for future-focussed, strategically aligned Ed &Cur Design, with this role providing specific input for Assessment and Feedback.

The Educational and Assessment Designer, contributes to the enhancement of student learning and educational quality by supporting the development, implementation and evaluation of curriculum design including effective assessment and feedback practices, AI in assessment, and digital assessment, across UNSW. They work in partnership with faculty-based academics and education support teams to enhance and design assessments that are inclusive, authentic, and aligned with course and program learning outcomes. As part of a team responsible for evidence-based, future-focused, strategically aligned curriculum and educational design that promote student learning and engagement, this role provides specialist expertise in assessment and feedback, contributing to university-wide initiatives that enhance learning, engagement, and academic integrity.

Who You Are

We are looking for someone who is aligned with UNSW’s vision and values and comes with:

Relevant tertiary qualifications in education, learning design, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience supporting academic staff in higher education, preferably in areas related to assessment, curriculum design, or digital learning.
  • Working knowledge of key learning technologies used in assessment (e.g. Moodle, Turnitin, Inspera, or similar).
  • An understanding of contemporary assessment principles and effective feedback practices, including concepts such as authentic assessment, formative feedback, and constructive alignment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to explain educational concepts clearly and work collaboratively across diverse academic teams.
  • Demonstrated experience in the design, development and facilitation of professional development workshops in face to face, hybrid and online contexts.
  • Demonstrated organisational and project coordination skills, with an ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver to deadlines.
  • A proactive, student-centred approach to problem-solving, with attention to detail and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Competency in using standard office software (e.g. Microsoft 365 suite), and comfort working with online platforms and systems.
  • A commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in curriculum and learning design.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s values, strategic priorities, and approach to teaching and learning excellence.
