Why Your Role Matters:
The Consumer Advocacy and Engagement Manager will play a central leadership role in embedding consumer perspectives into research and strategic activities within Child UnLimited (UnLTD) and the Population Child Health Research Group at UNSW Sydney. Working closely with researchers, clinicians, and consumers, the position ensures that children, young people, families, and carers with lived experience are meaningfully involved across all stages of research design, evaluation, and translation. The role provides strategic oversight and expert advice on best-practice, equity-driven consumer engagement, supports the Consumer Advisory Board and Youth Mentor Program, and represents Child UnLimited at conferences, advisory panels, and sector forums.
Reporting to a Professor within the School of Clinical Medicine, this autonomous role requires strong strategic vision, professional judgment, and leadership in advancing consumer-led research, policy influence, and health systems innovation, with no direct reports.

- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, including confidence in public speaking, presenting at conferences, and contributing to publications or policy submissions.
- Strong organisational, time management, and project coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Understanding and experience of writing peer reviewed article would be highly desirable.
- Demonstrated capacity to work both independently and collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams, exercising sound judgment and professional integrity.
- Experience in mentoring or capacity-building activities that strengthen consumer or youth leadership in research and advocacy.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and improving outcomes for children and families affected by chronic illness, disability, and rare disease.
- An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
