Why Your Role Matters
The Senior Business Analyst helps deliver student systems transformation and enhancement initiatives across UNSW.
Working in Student Systems, you will improve the systems, processes and services that support the student lifecycle. You will analyse end-to-end processes, engage stakeholders, identify opportunities to simplify ways of working, and translate business needs into clear requirements.
Across the project lifecycle, you will work with project managers, developers, testers, business owners and student administration stakeholders to turn strategic goals into practical, user-focused solutions. Experience in student administration or higher education systems is desirable, but strong business analysis capability is essential.
Reporting to the Manager, Student Systems (Projects), you may supervise one direct report. Key responsibilities include:
-
Lead business analysis across student systems projects and enhancements
-
Understand current-state processes, pain points, business needs and future-state requirements with stakeholders
-
Elicit and document requirements, process maps, user stories, functional requirements and acceptance criteria
-
Identify opportunities to simplify and improve processes across the student lifecycle
-
Bridge business and technical teams, translating needs into practical solutions
-
Contribute to options analysis, impact assessments, business cases and decision materials
-
Support user acceptance testing, training, business readiness and go-live activities
-
Advise on processes, system capabilities, risks, dependencies and fit-for-purpose solutions
-
Support continuous improvement and mentor junior business analysts as required
About You
You are a Business Analyst who can understand how work gets done, identify what can be improved, and turn business needs into clear, practical requirements.
This is a business analysis role, not a functional analyst role. You will work with business areas to understand complex processes, simplify ways of working and deliver improvements that enhance the student and staff experience. You are a collaborative communicator who builds trust with stakeholders and brings structure, clarity and sound judgement to complex or ambiguous problems.
You will bring:
-
Demonstrated Business Analyst experience analysing complex end-to-end processes, gathering requirements and identifying improvements
-
Experience gathering, documenting and validating requirements with senior stakeholders
-
Ability to translate business needs into requirements, process documentation, user stories, acceptance criteria and delivery artefacts
-
Experience supporting system, process or service improvements in project environments
-
Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, including workshop facilitation and building shared understanding
-
Strong analytical, problem-solving and attention-to-detail skills
-
Ability to manage competing priorities in a complex organisation
-
Exposure to Waterfall, Agile or hybrid delivery approaches
-
Experience contributing to transformation, process improvement or operational change initiatives
Higher education, student administration or student lifecycle experience is highly regarded. Knowledge of TechnologyOne, Callista, SITS, Ellucian Banner or similar platforms is advantageous; however, the role focuses on business analysis rather than technical configuration.
This is a full-time, continuing role based at Kensington with hybrid flexibility, Monday to Friday. Candidates must have valid working rights in Australia. Visa sponsorship is not available.
Please submit your resume and a cover letter explaining your interest in the role and addressing the “About You” section. You will also answer additional questions as part of the application and can save your progress before returning.
