The Opportunity

  • Full-time (35 hrs week) | 7-month fixed term contract
  • Hybrid/flexible working arrangements
  • $118,483 -$128,223 pa + 17% super

This is a rare opportunity to take ownership of the redesign of a platform that sits at the heart of UNSW's research ecosystem. You'll work autonomously on a high-profile project, collaborate with researchers and professional staff across multiple faculties, increase engagement with a key research platform, and deliver improvements that will positively impact thousands of researchers across the University.

The Digital UX Designer will lead the redesign of Bench,  which provides researchers, school managers, and faculty leadership with the ability to efficiently submit, track and manage research grants, contracts, Higher Degree Research (HDR) records, and related service request tickets.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting user research with academics and stakeholders.
  • Evaluating the current user experience and identifying improvement opportunities.
  • Designing wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity UI designs in Figma.
  • Running usability testing and feedback sessions to validate design solutions.
  • Collaborating with product managers, developers, and subject matter experts to shape product direction.
  • Delivering implementation recommendations that will guide future development of the platform.
  • Providing broader UX guidance and support across other Division projects.

Who you are

You can demonstrate your strong UX design experience (typically 3–4+ years), proficiency with tools such as Figma, Figjam, Miro and Adobe Creative Suite, excellent stakeholder engagement skills, and a demonstrated ability to deliver user-centred design solutions.

Experience in either a higher education or other large complex organisations essential.
