Position Summary

The Research Strategy and Support Manager is a senior leadership appointment within the Faculty of Medicine & Health, providing strategic and operational leadership of the Faculty’s research support and infrastructure functions. Partnering closely with Faculty leadership, the role shapes and drives the strategic direction of the Faculty’s research enterprise, aligning governance, investment, resources, systems and services to strengthen research performance, funding, impact, capability and HDR outcomes.

This role requires a strong, ambitious and strategic leader who can operate effectively in a complex environment, influence at senior levels, and mentor and develop high-performing teams. The successful candidate will lead strategic transformation, identify emerging opportunities and risks, build organisational capability and establish strong partnerships across the University and externally. As a highly visible senior appointment with significant scope and influence, the role also provides strong career development and progression opportunities.

Some key skills required: 

  • Extensive experience in research development, funding strategy, Higher Degree Research (HDR) support, or research operations within a complex organisation.
  • Demonstrated experience shaping organisational strategy and exercising delegated authority to translate strategic priorities into major initiatives, governance frameworks and measurable organisational outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to use data, reporting and analytics to inform decision-making, monitor performance and drive continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated executive leadership of large, multidisciplinary professional teams responsible for delivering strategically significant organisational outcomes within a complex matrix environment.
  • Demonstrated strong operational management capability, including planning, priority setting, financial management, resource allocation and project management, in a complex high-volume environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead organisational change initiatives, including embedding new processes, systems or operating models.
