Resident Mentors play an important support role within the UNSW Accommodation team, part of the Pro Vice-Chancellor Student Success portfolio in the Division of Education and Student Experience. Working closely with the Dean and Deputy Dean, Resident Mentors contribute to the day-to-day operation of the College and help build a safe, inclusive and connected residential community.

The role provides academic, pastoral and wellbeing support to resident students and contributes to the effective operation of the College. This includes engaging regularly with residents; attending College meetings, events and activities; participating in orientation and training programs; providing academic support and course guidance; responding to resident needs, incidents and emergencies; and may involve participating in rostered after-hours and overnight duties.

Resident Mentors also refer students to relevant University services when additional support is required and work collaboratively with the Dean and Deputy Dean to foster respectful and inclusive relationships across the College community.

The role reports to the Dean of the relevant College and you can access the details of the responsibilities in the job description.

Hours may vary from week to week depending on student needs, College activities and rostered duty requirements. Resident Mentors are employed as UNSW staff and are expected to undertake their responsibilities alongside their studies. Candidates must maintain ongoing enrolment at UNSW for the duration of their employment. We are recruiting across UNSW Colleges, with several vacancies available, however, placements will depend on operational requirements and available vacancies so personal preferences cannot be considered. To avoid potential conflicts of interest, Resident Mentors will not be placed in a College where they have previously resided. Successful candidates will be expected to commence on 18 January 2027 and continue until mid-December 2027.
