Context of the Job
The School of Music (SoM) at the University of Delaware provides over 300 public-facing performance opportunities throughout the year. Events within the School of Music range from academic required student recitals to large Symphonic Orchestra recitals. A position with the School of Music Events Team provides staff with the opportunity to develop their customer service and technical skillset to diverse audiences ranging from 10 to 200 attendees.
Reporting to the Technical Supervisor, the Technical Assistant is responsible for all audiovisual technology needs for School of Music events and performances in the Center for the Arts, Bayard Sharp Hall, and Amy E. Dupont Music Building. Hours are variable, dependent on the event schedule, and average approximately 10-15 hours per week. Qualified candidates must be available and willing to work in the evenings and on weekends.
In this position you will...
- Learn music technology, video editing, and production in public performance events
- Gain hands on experience with performance-based audio and video technologies
- Have a better understanding of audio and video performance management
- Develop effective customer service skillsets
Major Responsibilities
- Direct and assist with the setup and teardown of audiovisual equipment as needed
- Produce high quality audio and visual recordings of School of Music events
- Operate the PA system to deliver prerecorded announcements as needed
- Set and adjust stage lighting as needed (Loudis Recital Hall Only)
- Provide support for events with advanced technology needs such as music recording technologies, video recording and live streaming in a live performance context, and public address system set up and breakdown
- Provide technical support for School of Music Livestreams
Education, Experience, and Abilities
- Requires a minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must be able to lift at least 25lbs unassisted
- Experience with ProTools or other digital audio software software preferred
- Knowledge of recording technology preferred
