Role Description:
The Department of Art Conservation at the University of Delaware is seeking a part-time, hourly Project Assistant to join a collaborative research initiative focused on sustainable conservation. This position is open to students at the University of Delaware and will be remote, with occasional work at Winterthur Museum.
The Greener Solvents Project is a unique interdisciplinary project that aims to help art conservation practices be more environmentally friendly, in collaboration with Dow Chemical, KiCulture, and academic institutions across Europe. We are working to create greener treatment alternatives and advance sustainable practices in the conservation field by developing an open-access online resource for practitioners, conducting research on sustainable solvents and gels, and building a global network for collaboration.
This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a high-impact project, offering hands-on experience in research, data dissemination, and global collaboration. The assistant will play a key role in supporting the next phase of this initiative and its public outreach efforts. This position is generously funded by a Delaware Environmental Institute faculty fellowship.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assist in the development and maintenance of a UD-hosted online resource for conservation practitioners.
- Support ongoing collaborative research into sustainable solvents, including sample preparation.
- Collaborate with international partners and students on various research and resource creation tasks.
- Create content for blog posts and project website, to communicate research findings and project updates.
- Contribute to data management and reporting, ensuring research findings are widely accessible.
- Assist with planning and developing new educational opportunities, such as a future professional workshops
- Help research potential funding sources for long-term project sustainability.
Qualifications:
- Strong written and oral science communication skills.
- Excellent time management and organizational abilities.
- Experience with website design is preferred.
- Demonstrated interest in sustainability, materials science, or cultural heritage conservation will be given priority.
