About the department / center:
The mission of the Academic Coaching and Tutoring Office is to empower students to develop the academic skills and strategies that will pave the way for future success. Every undergraduate student can benefit from the support we offer–struggling students gain confidence and see great improvement, and high-achieving students become even stronger.
Role Description:
Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) are structured study groups that help UD undergraduates review course material, practice effective study strategies, and collaborate with classmates. PASS Leaders are trained undergraduate students who have successfully completed the course with a B or higher and maintain at least a 3.0 GPA. They facilitate interactive sessions—held weekly or around exams—to reinforce key concepts and promote academic success. Some leaders may also attend lectures to stay current with course content and strengthen connections with students and instructors.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Facilitate interactive learning sessions that integrate study strategies with course content.
- Support peers by teaching and reviewing material, clarifying concepts, and explaining challenging topics.
- Prepare materials such as handouts, practice questions, and exam reviews.
- Schedule and conduct small-group sessions based on student needs and availability.
- Track attendance, and student progress in the designated tutoring system.
- May attend class lectures and meetings with supervisor, mentoring staff or faculty as needed.
- Be punctual, professional, and prepared for all sessions.
- Participate in required training and team meetings.
- Work 6–10 hours during scheduled work week.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
· Currently enrolled UD undergraduate with 30+ earned UD credits (excluding AP/transfer credits)
· Minimum 3.0 GPA
· Preferred: experience teaching, presenting, or helping others learn
- Earned a B or higher in the supported course(s) or similar courses: ANFS 240; CHEM 101, 103, 104, 213; CIEG 212, 305; ECON 101, 103; MATH 010, 221, 241, 242; PHYS 207, 208
· Strong communication, presentation, organizational, and interpersonal skills
· Faculty or staff recommendation
· Familiarity with the University of Delaware community
· Ability to commit to a full semester of employment
· Completion of required training
