Role Description:
The English Language Institute (ELI) is looking to hire 3-4 rising undergraduate juniors/seniors interested in leadership experience and communicating across cultures to welcome and integrate 15-20 new international students to the UD campus. Student leaders will collaborate to design and lead a one-day weekend intercultural retreat for 30-40 international and domestic freshmen in the fall of 2026. Domestic and international students are encouraged to apply.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Attend the training for this position in August, the weekly event planning meetings in September, and the all-day intercultural retreat on a Saturday in October.
- Meet with incoming international students when they arrive in August to begin developing rapport and provide a campus tour.
- Collaborate with a few other undergraduate student leaders to develop the activities for an all-day intercultural retreat for an equal mix of 30-40 international and domestic students to help foster a sense of belonging and character at UD.
- Attend and contribute feedback at the retreat debrief session.
Qualifications:
- Rising juniors/seniors preferred
- Genuine interest in getting to know and learning from international students
- Strong interpersonal communication skills: developing rapport, clearly expressing ideas, willingness to learn from and collaborate with others
- Creativity generating ideas and brainstorming solutions
- Professionalism: Maintain confidential materials, arrive promptly to scheduled meetings and events, dress in business casual attire, respond promptly to emails, communicate with supervisor regarding concerns and absences.
- Foreign language experience or experience in another culture preferred
