In support of Kent State University’s vision and core values, the mission of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is to enhance the psychological health and development of Kent State University students. Through the provision of an array of culturally competent and evidence-based psychological services, consultation with faculty and staff, and programming, CAPS staff contribute to the attainment of student educational objectives, encourage student engagement in the university community, and support students’ personal and professional success

Based on our mission and core values, we are seeking a team member who is capable of and committed to the following: 

Coordination and supervision of professional clinical staff to promote the provision of ethically and clinically competent mental health services. Promote accessibility, efficiency, and efficacy of clinical services. Supervise assigned staff members and oversee assigned functional areas. Consult with university faculty and staff. Reports to Director.

Examples of Duties:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following:

Supervision and Coordination:

  • Monitor service delivery including timely response to request for clinical services, case assignment, scheduling, referrals, and office utilization. Provide clinical consultation and direction to clinical staff as well as campus and community partners. Supervise front desk staff and develops procedures for office procedures. Oversee technical operations necessary for in-person or telepsychology services.
  • Work closely with administrative staff to manage clinical service delivery.
  • Serve as primary consultant for administrative and clinical staff regarding clinical crises.
  • Ensure that staff maintain accurate and timely documentation for all clinical interactions and consultations.
  • Assist in the evaluation and modification of policies and procedures to align with field standards and best practices.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance and consistency with all federal and state statutes and university regulations related to mental health care and services.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining administrative and clinical policies for the department.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of the Electronic Health Record and Telepsychology platform.

Direct service:

  • Provide direct clinical services; may include psychological testing and assessment, individual, group, family, and couples psychotherapy.
  • Provide crisis intervention and emergency services to the university community.
  • Consult with university and academic departments in mental health related matters.

Maintain clinical records.

Serve on various department, division, and University committees.

Assist in developing and implementing programs and services related to mental health.

Participate in professional development and continuing education activities.

May supervise graduate student externs or interns and/or provide functional guidance of support staff.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Additional Examples of Duties – if applicable:

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D. or Psy.D. in clinical or counseling psychology. Three years of progressively responsible experience in clinical counseling, including experience in clinical supervision.

OR

Master's degree in counseling or social work.  Five years of progressively responsible experience in clinical counseling, including experience in clinical supervision.

Experience working with and commitment to serving underserved populations. Must be able to work nontraditional hours.

License/Certification:

Licensure in the State of Ohio as a psychologist, LISW, LPCC or Ohio license eligibility.

 

Knowledge Of:

Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
Evidence-based clinical practices

Skill In:

Clinical counseling
Verbal, written, and interpersonal communications
Personal computer applications, i.e. Microsoft Office Suite

Ability To:

Manage fast-paced, high demand clinical environment
Design and implement a variety of psycho-educational programs
Work nontraditional hours as required, including evenings and weekends

                                                                                       

Preferred Qualifications – if applicable:

Successful completion of an APA-accredited internship or counseling internship preferred.

Demonstrated experience working in a university counseling center and counseling college students. Experience in coordination and management of clinical / functional areas.

Experience with electronic health records.
